SUMMARY:Customised ceramic bone replacement - from biodegradable to bioinert
DESCRIPTION:Healthy\, fit and mobile well into old age - especially in view of increasing life expectancy\, these wishes are at the top of many people's lists. However\, bone and joint degradation as well as tissue\, muscle and tendon loss are inevitable in the 60+ age bracket. But younger people can also be affected by bone and joint damage following illness or accidents. To correct such defects and improve quality of life\, implants and implant materials that mimic the human bone structure are increasingly coming into focus. Patient-specific implants\, such as artificial bone structures or small joints\, promise a better fit and thus both increased functionality and a longer service life compared to conventional restorations (or therapy).
